Return to School Letter – September 2024
Dear Parent/Carer I hope this communication finds you well. I am writing to share arrangements for the start of school in September 2024. All pupils will start the new academic year on Tuesday 3rd September 2024. Returning Start Time Year groups will arrive in a phased manner, starting with our new Year 7s. This is to give time for staff to ensure that pupils are ‘ready to learn’. This will involve checking uniform, equipment and going through our expectations for the new school year. Please note: Any pupils not in the correct uniform or with the correct equipment will be directed home to rectify this before entering the school. The time of your child’s return to school is given below. Start times: Year 7 - 8.30am Year 11 - 9.30am Year 8 - 10.00am Year 9 - 10.40am Year 10 - 11.20am All pupils should report to the main school entrance at their allocated time. Pupils will meet and greet their tutor at the front of school and will be expected to line up at the front of school. They will then be checked for correct uniform and equipment. Please can you ensure that they adhere to our policies on the areas identified below so they have a successful return to school. Expectations Reminder: Equipment In order for your child to be ready to learn in lessons please ensure they have a fully equipped pencil case including the following items: Necessary Items A sturdy black school bag A clear pencil case Two BLACK ink pens (these will need replenishing as the year progresses) One RED pen One PURPLE pen Two pencils An eraser A rigid ruler A glue Stick Additional Items Coloured pencils Scientific calculator (needed for KS4) Dictionary Jewellery/ Hair/Makeup/Nails/Lashes Please be mindful, that upon returning to school, they will not be permitted to wear extreme hairstyles, false nails, false lashes, make-up or jewellery, so please be mindful of this before embarking on expensive salon treatments prior to returning to school as they will be required to remove these before being allowed to attend mainstream lessons. Mobile Phones Phones continue to be banned in school to ensure our pupils are able to focus fully on their learning. Mobile phones are incredibly disruptive in schools and I would like to thank you for your support in ensuring your child adheres to our mobile phone policy which is swiftly becoming the policy adopted by the vast majority of schools across the country. Phones that are seen out in school will be confiscated until the end of the day and a parent/ responsible adult will be required to collect the device. If a parent is unable to do this, then the child may collect the device at the end of the week. Uniform Please can you support your child having the best possible start by ensuring they are wearing full uniform and school approved footwear. Please find full details of our uniform expectations on the next page. Keeping In Contact Our school sends all communications via the My Child At School app (MCAS) This is the NEW communication app and is different from the old My Ed which we no longer use. Please ensure this new app is installed and notifications are enabled. All communication, regarding trips, your child’s academic progress reports, attendance, lates, behaviour, achievements, detentions and all other events will come via this app. You can also track your child’s attendance in school and send messages for absence so it is an essential part of monitoring your child at school. We will be in contact early in September to confirm the dates of our welcome events. This will give you the chance to meet staff and find out how well your child has settled into the new academic year.
